On November 7, 2019 the National POW MIA Flag Act was signed into law, requiring the POWMIA Flag to be flown on certain federal properties, including the US Capitol Building, on all days the Flag of the United States is flown. Originally designed in 1972, the now official design is comprised of a black background with a white silhouette of a Prisoner Of War in front of a guard tower and barbed wire.
