This painting feels as cozy as coming home to this little red roofed house nested among the trees and with blooming garden out front must have been--all the more so if one had hiked quite a distance along the path leading up to it

and all the better as applied to representing an eight point star flanked with eight angels adamantly gesturing (as if performing semaphore

the latter creating the appearance of eyes

I know from the New England dealer I purchased this from that the Nancy Linton who signed it (quite proudly!) was Nancy Isabel Linton, born 1868 in Charlotte, New Brunswick, in and around where she lived her whole life. (d. 1935). I would guess she drew this during her school years, early mid 1880s, and love everything about it our Nancy was not afraid of bold gestures, and I imagine her as a young woman with a mind very much her own!
