we have found it equally well-suited to typical garden soil conditions

and are adorned in September and October with abundant and attractive fruit clusters (2-4 fruits each) that emerge green and age to purple black

it starts flowering in mid-March and continues into July

Penstemon havardii Endangered Plants (aka: Iris dichotoma x IrisBig Bend Beard Tongue is a Texas sized, rock garden perennial, whose flowering stalks in late spring can reach a staggering 6' tall. Native only to Texas prairies and savannahs, the compact evergreen rosettes are easy to miss, but the same can't be said for the flowering spikes of scarlet orange, which tower over the native grasses.
